Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
The students in our program are diagnosed with moderate to severe disabilities. This includes Autism, Orthopedic Impairment, Intellectual Disability, Visual Impairment, Hard of Hearing, Speech and Language Impairment, Traumatic Brain Injury, Multiple Disabilities, Other Health Impairments, and more. More than 75% of our students come from low socioeconomic status homes. Many of our students speak a primary language other than English. At least half of our students benefit from visual schedules and prompting. None of them will receive a diploma.
My Project
Our students have a variety of learning styles including visual and tactile. Mastery of our modified curriculum can be demonstrated through art projects. We need glue, markers, and scissors.
Watching the students create their works of art, bringing their learning to life in their own way, is truly a beautiful reward for students, parents, and staff!
Incorporating both sides of the brain helps then shine in ways they could not otherwise experience. Providing project based learning gives students confidence to take risks and celebrate their achievements.
Students and faculty from all over campus and the community are welcome to visit and see the learning on display.
