Help me give my students the technology they need to keep up with the rest of the school population. Our students have so much untapped potential that they are just waiting to share with the world!
The students in my classroom are very special and determined young men and woman. These students not only have the challenges typical to any middle school student but they also battle daily with various academic and emotional struggles. My students inspire me everyday, not just be a better teacher, but to be a better person!
My class serves students with a wide range of abilities.
I teach the ACES program, Academic Careers and Essential Skills. My students struggle with intellectual disabilities, autism, cerebral palsy, emotional disabilities and even severe anxiety. These very special students require varying levels and methods of accommodations in the classroom to help them succeed. Unfortunately, teacher resources are limited and technology, for student use, is virtually nonexistent in most classrooms. These students, regardless of their needs, come to school with a smile and positive attitude every day! They help each other, care for others well-being and they are learning to advocate for themselves. My hope is that, with the proper resources and support, these very special children will develop the confidence they need to be as amazing as I already know they are!
My Project
Our students struggle with the writing process but are growing as students due to our constant attempt to provide different and modified ways of reaching their writing goals. We need updated computers or Chromebooks. My students also need headphones because much of their work is individualized, as well as the fact that some of our students have sensory issues and need a quiet surrounding to succeed. Chromebooks were offered to our school last year but our classes did not receive them because we currently have computers. The computers are very old and often don't work very well.
The students in my class struggle with so many things everyday, their special needs vary so dramatically from emotional support to academic support, but the only thing they ever want is to feel like everyone else.
Having the same resources, as the rest of our school community, would definitely help our students confidence grow.
