Special Request - Books My Students Are Asking For!
Help me give my students access to books that are high interest to them in our classroom library! These are specific titles that my students have requested that they would love to read next!
My students are the second group of fifth graders at a brand new school. We are spending this year continuing our school's legacy and establishing a culture for acceptance and learning. We work with diverse groups of students who include special education students, students with dyslexia, English Language Learners, low-income students, and other students from populations with special needs.
My students are extremely hardworking and curious kiddos.
They love reading and exploring new topics. They have really impressed me with how far they have pushed themselves to evolve already this year. We focus on growth mindset and reminding kids that it is okay to make mistakes. We learn from mistakes and better understand ourselves moving forward.
Our school and community still feel the impact of Hurricane Harvey. From falling two weeks behind in our curriculum to helping our kids heal after so much loss, our school has come together uniquely and fiercely to support one another. Returning to our normal classroom routine and expectations will help the students move beyond all this loss.
The fifth graders show compassion, enthusiasm, determination, and kindness each day which creates a vibrant and welcoming learning environment. The positive attitudes they have are contagious,
My Project
These books would make fantastic additions to our classroom library! My students and I were able to have some great conversations about what texts are particularly interesting to them and we created a wish list together. I also selected this year's Bluebonnet Book Award winners to give my students additional access to these books. We have multiple kiddos excited to read the Amulet series, the Who Was... books, and books relating to what we are learning about in social studies.
This is the second year our school has been open and the first year was impacted by Hurricane Harvey.
We are trying to create classroom environments that restore our students' love for school and learning. My students have really surprised me this year with how much they enjoy discussing what they are reading with their classmates. By adding these books to our classroom library, I am hoping these amazing book chats will continue and students will expand their reading habits.
