I am very excited to be working with students in second grade this year. An important goal in second grade is to help students read and comprehend text. But it is just as important to help them gain a love of reading.
My classroom is filled with readers at all different levels, one thing they all have in common... a love of animals.
My students are diverse in many ways, it is nice to find a common thread that all my students can share.
My Project
I want my students to learn to enjoy reading. I know it would be fun for my students to always have a reading friend! Second graders still love their stuffed animals and what a fun way to share a read to self-experience then, to read to a these requested monsters, wildlife, monkeys, dinosaurs, and bears.
I want my students to have access to a plush stuffed animal that can be their reading friend in school.
If I can combine reading and animals I know the students will want to read more.
I want to make sure that all students have access to a selection of plush animals that will help them to get excited about reading.
