My Students
North High School has teamed up with Special Olympics to promote and create social inclusion between individuals with and without intellectual/physical disabilities through sport. It was inspired by a simple principle: playing together is a quick path to friendship and understanding.
At North High we do a variety of activities and events that give all students, with or without disabilities, the opportunity to work together as a team and to compete against each other in friendly competition.
We are working on providing a safe environment where all students can come and build friendships and learn about each other. In hopes that we will slowly breakdown stereotypes.
My Project
Special Olympics Unified Sports creates unique teammate bonds through sports experiences, just like any other team, and the participants compete in Special Olympics competitions.
By giving students the opportunity to play a sport together, they will learn many important life lessons and learn the importance of inclusion.
Donations will help our students practice together. Since we are not an official "team" of our school, we do not get the same funding. We also do not charge any of our athletes for participating. The premise is to promote acceptance and the understanding of inclusion among all people. Our practices and events are all held on campus and with other schools so that students can easily participate and be included.
