We have a diverse population of learners who thrive in the classroom when technology is a cornerstone of the curriculum. My students are excited to become digital citizens and productive 21st century learners!
We have spent a lot of time learning about how information literate students do research on the Internet. Lately we've been evaluating news sources, specifically how news corporations deliver news through multimedia. We want to develop our own way to deliver news through video. To do this, we want to read up on current issues using challenging texts, like the Time for Kids magazine. Then, using all the creativity we possess, we will write news briefs, practice presenting them, record our presentations, and edit our videos so that we can share current events with our other friends in the 4th and 5th grades.
This project will help my students become proficient researchers, better writers, and confident public speakers.
It is crucial in today's world that students are able to locate information, synthesize the information, and then communicate that information to their peers. This project reaches across many subject areas (reading, writing, speaking and listening, and the arts) and will make my students well-rounded 21st century learners in a hands-on way.
