I teach children with varying exceptionalities, such as specific learning disabilities, autism, vision impairment, and cerebral palsy. My students are at least two grade levels behind their same age peers.
We are a Title I school which means many of the children come from impoverished backgrounds.
They have parents that are absentee, intellectually disabled, or not well educated. Many students are part of the Hunger Project which helps feed them on weekends.
In my room, the students are able to work on their level and at the pace they need. We are trying to ensure that they get the most out of their education.
My students require a lot of support when it comes to learning to read and write.
Special needs students do not process information in the same way and at the same speed as their same age peers.
They like to have information presented to them in many ways, including any hands-on activities we can provide. The Language Arts Kits that i am asking for from Donors choose are crucial pieces of developmental steps that my students often miss during regular instruction. They need to have spelling, comprehension, vocabulary, and sentence structure broken down for them. When they are able to see the pieces to the process, and work on the pieces at centers, they are much more successful.
