At our school, we are lucky to house a classroom for moderate/severe special needs students. Because our school is being rebuilt from the ground up, we do not have a separate nursing area which allows some of these students to be changed during the day. Currently, we have to remove the "sick/ill" students that may be in the nursing office so that we can utilize the bed to change our special needs students.
I would like our special needs students to have a separate bed available to them in another room so that they can be changed closer to their classroom (instead of being brought all the way to the office) and without disruption to other students who may be ill/sick and waiting to go home in the nurse's room in the main office.
It is of course best practice for good hand washing when trying to prevent the spread of infection. It is also a good practice to have students that need special care to be away from potentially infectious students.
My Project
Special needs students who need to be changed during the day deserve respect and privacy. Please help me to acquire an exam table for them to be housed in another room other than the nurse's office.
Keeping them safe and out of the "sick" room is the best practice for prevention of the spread of germs.
Because the school is being remodeled, this changing station would be in another area closer to the portable that the students have class in- less time walking to the school office and more time in the classroom. The right goal for all students is to spend more time learning during their school day.
