I work with special needs students, all of whom are middle school in age but not in their learning ability. My students are classified as Autistic or Intellectually Disturbed. All have learning disabilities. Many of my students are without speech skills and some are brand new to school after living in other countries for the first 11 years of their life. Currently, like many other schools, we are seeing our students learn in their homes, meeting up on Google Meet or hangouts. This has been a difficult road for all of us.
My students are trying their best in keeping up with the work, some have their parents behind them and others are just getting by.
Some seem to have gotten lost in the distance and can not get online. A few do not have the ability to understand what is being done and are doing the best they can at home.
My Project
I have two students that need to be able to hear and talk when we do a Google Meet for distance learning. I have two students who live in very busy noisy homes and are sometimes locked in their bathroom as the only quiet place to go when we are having a Google Meet.
By being able to send them these air pods, they will be able to move around, hear, talk, and still be active on their devices while learning with us remotely.
I can only imagine what some of my student's lives are like without the ability to go out, see other people, and practice communication, practice their learning skills, and just be a kid. These times are so trying for everyone, it has to be very difficult for a family with students of special needs.
