I am a resource teacher at Palmetto High School. I work with students who have learning disabilities in the areas of reading, math and writing. The majority of our resource student population has a diagnosed learning disability in the area of letter-word identification and/or passage comprehension. I am requesting an audiobook library for the resource department at Palmetto High School. This library will include a collection of literary classics for grades nine through twelve. It will also include a collection of high-interest fiction novels. With the use of audiobooks, students with learning disabilities in reading will have the opportunity to experience success for the first time. Students will be able to comprehend a variety of literary works, which will enable them to achieve success in the regular classroom. The success achieved through the use of the audiobook library may help instill a love of reading in students who are often very reluctant to read. Over 70 resource students at Palmetto High School will benefit from this library. Thank you for considering this proposal.
