Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My students love coming to school and learning because I have resources and materials for them to use that are not available in most of their homes. They have the opportunity to let their imaginations run free as they create art projects on their own or with my guidance.
I teach preschoolers with varying disabilities in an area that is socioeconomically disadvantaged.
Neither the school nor the parents have money to contribute to my program, which requires a lot of consumables, manipulatives, and hands-on activities through which the children learn.
I have 30+ eager and excited 3 and 4 year olds who love to come to school. They learn not only through my direct instruction, but through play, exploration, music and movement, and listening to stories.
They get really excited about learning! Coming to school gives them opportunities to learn that they are unlikely to get by staying home. I have a real passion for making a difference in the lives of the children I am fortunate enough to have placed in my classroom.
My Project
Preschoolers go through a lot of consumables while learning through creating. I've requested basic materials including paper and glue, which are not always readily available at my school. Also on my wish list are buttons, textured shapes, and gemstones for making art collages or math art.
I am also requesting a variety of paint and marker materials for illustrations when making books. The materials I am ordering will be used to develop a variety of skills across all developmental domains. The materials will be used at the art center, writing center, and math center.
The materials I have chosen will offer a variety of opportunities for the children to explore and create art and early literacy projects.
This all builds self-esteem, confidence and school readiness skills. Implementation of the materials will enable my students to grow across the domains of language, cognition, fine motor and social/emotional development as they interact, share, talk about their work, and create using their hands and minds.
