Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
I teach special education lab classes, grades first through fifth. My students love to come into the lab classroom ready to make learning fun. These awesome students come from many different cultural backgrounds.
Even though they live in a very high poverty area they don't let adversity come between them and the chance to make learning a fun experience.
The enjoy coming to their lab class to find a comfortable, low-key place work on their reading and math skills. While building knowledge, my students exercise and enjoy peer collaboration and team building skills.
My Project
My students have asked if they could have caddies to organize their art and learning tools such as pencils, markers, scissors, and more. The caddies would help tremendously. They have also asked for ink for their printer to print award certificates and book/math projects as well as pillows for their reading area and a multiplication math tower game.
Organization in a classroom is essential for good classroom management and student success.
This is especially true when working with students with special needs. The caddies would be a welcome organizational tool.
My students have asked for some pillows for their reading nook, too. Currently, we have two beanbags that are in semi poor shape. Those "beans" don't seem to want to stay long! When in their math center, a multiplication tower game would be great to help them hone their multiplication skills!
