Our school building in East Harlem is closed and my students, many whom live in low-income housing near the school, are staying home. As a special education teacher, my students have a variety of learning levels, which includes students with autism, with learning disabilities, and lower-functioning students with mental disabilities. Most of my students live in an apartment with their families. Families often have many children at home, who all need to learn remotely until schools can open again.
My Project
My students love to learn about musical instruments, to learn new songs to sing, and to dance and move. As the Music and Movement teacher, my students learn about music in traditional songs and music, as well as modern and popular music.
Colorful markers, poster paper, and clips to hang lesson notes and vocabulary, will support an engaging environment for my remote learning classroom.
Bright illustrations with easy to see and read vocabulary, are important to stimulate interest and learning for my special needs students who are challenged with attention deficit disorder. Students need strong, clear images and words to keep their attention during lessons.
