Celebrate Black Teachers and Students

This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.

My Students

My special needs students are in high school now, and we are working on independent living skills. My students have a variety of learning levels, including autism, learning disabilities, and lower-functioning students with mental disabilities. My classroom is designed to be a studio apartment in order to teach Daily Living Skills. My students will be learning about the responsibilities that each of us have in our daily lives, and we will also learn how we will balance our work time and our leisure time.

My Project

My special needs students respond to colorful and clear materials. Some of my students are not verbal and I use picture symbols, photographs and many printed materials to communicate information to my students. Having ink for the printer will allow me to have materials that I need to engage my students in learning through colorful and interesting visuals. My students need a variety of materials and having more printer ink will allow me to expand and create the multiple points of entry in my teaching in order to extend understanding and comprehension in my classroom.
