This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
My students are some of the kindest, most caring human beings. Everyday they fill my heart with so much joy. Often people see my students as children with disabilities. However, our classroom attitude is we are all unique individuals who have different strengths. My students learn about taking ownership in being excellent community members.
Our hearts are the most important indicator of what we value.
We learn about being kind to everyone, giving everything we have to what we are doing, and always be a friend. My students need to learn, not just academic, but life skills that will help them be as independent as possible in the future.
My Project
When I first started teaching my students, my resources were very limited. I got a bigger classroom and some more materials, but it's not enough. My responsibility is to educated my students in a variety of subjects. What I teach has no predetermined curriculum. Every thing I teach, I have to pull together myself.
Do you enjoy sitting in an uncomfortable chair all day?
My students need places that are comfortable. They spend the majority of the day in my classroom. If they were comfortable, this would be one less obstacle my students have to overcome to learn.
The key is making sure each of my students have the easiest path to learning to be independent members of society. These materials and chairs are a great way for me to start that.
