This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
Special education is such an exciting part of our school. Some of my students are learning to read, write, and count, while some of their classmates are learning social skills and appropriate behaviors. I have a diverse group of students with mixed abilities and developmental levels. All come to school ready to learn and grow.
In this class, we promote each child's strengths and practice full academic inclusion.
I teach in a wing of 3 kindergartens, one ELL class, one general education class and one full inclusion class. As my students make academic gains and progress in my classroom, they begin to demonstrate these skills in their general education classroom. My classroom is about building skills to get included. The work we do in this classroom is building relationships, staying with the group, following directions, and accessing general education content in different ways. We celebrate little wins together each day.
My Project
My students all have special needs that range. The general education classroom requires my students to use a workbook and put pencil to paper. Unfortunately, this method of instruction is not how my students learn best. My students need small group instruction with hands-on activities such as tactile alphabet cards and cvc matches. These tactile alphabet and math items will help reinforce concepts taught in the classroom in a way that sticks.
Children with special needs learn in a special way.
These materials will not only help my students with their general education curriculum, but will also help them to meet their personal academic goals.
