My Students
I teach kindergarten through second grade students in my special education classroom. Special Education has become my true passion, and I know that I was uniquely called to do this work. My classroom in many ways functions like any other, and yet, it must be different in every way in order to meet my students' needs. I am entrusted to teach children from three different grades, but my students' individual educational levels differ greatly beyond their grade equivalent.
These amazing children love and learn in ways as unique as they are, and they continually motivate me to become a better educator for them.
We know that children learn in many different ways, and that fact is uniquely visible in my classroom. I strive each and every day to meet my students' needs in a way that helps them to better reach their individual educational goals.
My Project
Unfortunately, general education curriculum materials often fall short in meeting the needs of special education students. Last year, I found some amazing resources for adaptive learning books and tasks that made a real difference in my students' educational experience. As amazing as they were, I simply did not have the resources to make multiple sets. This limited their usage in my classroom. This year, I would love to take those materials even further, by providing additional sets to be used by my students on a daily basis. These adapted learning tools are a labor of love, requiring large amounts of paper, laminating pouches, and velcro. My classroom is also in need of daily use supplies. Although many of my students spend about half of their day in my classroom, school supply list items purchased by parents are for their homerooms. This means that I have had to purchase crayons, markers, and cleaning supplies out of pocket. Teaching in a unique space and environment produces unique problems, and I thank you in advance for helping me to solve them.
My students' classroom experience will be more colorful and enjoyable with your help!
