My kiddos are awesome individuals who learn and show what they learn in unique ways. They are extremely creative and and thrive when they can show off what they know. They don't fit the perfect little standardized box we try to fit students in these days.
My students are all children with IEPs.
Most of my students have specific learning disabilities. A few are students with Autism and other disabilities that make school life more difficult for them.
My students are all members of the Navajo Nation. They live on or near the reservation. Many live in poverty. They have to travel long distance on not very good roads to come to school each day. They sometimes have difficult lives, but we try to make school a safe and fun place for them to learn and grow.
My Project
My students need basic some basic supplies to help with their organization and learning. Binders will help to keep math and writing assignments organized. Pencil boxes will keep their pencils and other small treasures from getting lost in their cubbies. The new markers and glue will make learning fun and creative. We use graph paper to help keep place value columns lined up when doing computation in math. It also helps some students with handwriting. We use note cards daily for things like sight word practice and math fact flash cards.
Students in my district all get some basic supplies to use in their general education classroom and these supplies are not often shared with the resource room teachers.
Each year I spend a large portion of my own money on classroom supplies to help organize my students and to make learning fun and creative. I just completed my tax return and noticed I spend way too much on my classroom. So, I'm asking for your help in spending a little less this coming school year.
