Celebrating Black History Month

This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.

My Students

My students are in my early childhood special education classroom. There are two girls and 6 boys. They are smart lovable kids with learning disabilities. The majority are nonverbal but use body language and gestures to get their needs met and your attention. They follow directions very well. They usually have to have hand over hand assistance to complete their work. They do love learning and being with each other. They love to hear good job and praises for their behavior and work.

My Project

Students will have visual and kinesthetic learning opportunities with the materials. The dry erase board allows them to mirror the teacher's writing. The students will move from hand over hand assistance to independent writing. Students can manipulate the magnetic letters to spell out 3 letter words. The students will take the materials homes to reinforce their learning. The students will learn their colors using the colorful magnetic alphabets. The student will write numbers and draw symbols for each number. These materials allow the students to take ownership of their on work.
