I have an amazing class of twenty-seven, very diverse, second-grade students. They are all sweet and smart and I love working with them every day. They have very diverse backgrounds, talents, and challenges. I learn something new from each of them every single day. With Common Core State Standards, school can sometimes be hard! I have several students with special needs. These wonderful students have extra needs for items that help them every day.
My students need sensory bands, weighted stones, and books about different abilities to make our classroom a more comfortable place for everyone.
My Project
By having things like the mood bands, my students will be able to express themselves to me without having to say anything. Some of my students who are on the spectrum do not want to speak to me or others at certain times. By being able to put the band to whether or not they want to talk, I won't be bothering them at moments they aren't able to speak. The sorting stones will be a quiet activity with a weighted appeal for my students who like sensory items. The books will be amazing to use in the classroom. Not all children know about special needs. By having books that express in positive ways how we are all different will be amazing!
