My Students

My students are an extremely diverse group of 60 boys and girls. We will begin our year learning about each other through ice breakers and student involvement activities. This group will be working hard to overcome language barriers, socio-economic barriers, and personal differences. They have each accepted that we are doing a kindness challenge this year to make us better people. That is what the world needs!

I am lucky to teach two very unique groups this year: English Language Learners and students on the Autism Spectrum.

I have already witnessed the compassion that students within this community have! I cannot wait to see how these students develop into life-long learners.

My Project

Many of my students come from a background where social-emotional health has not been a primary focus. Interactions are limited because of this. I have also noticed that the level of unkind words has been on the rise. The novel, Fish in a Tree, teaches a valuable lesson about the way we treat others and how struggling students can turn a negative academic mindset into a positive one.

Fish in a Tree will be used as a hands-on guide to improving students' understanding of how other people struggle throughout the day.

It will also give students the ability to reflect on their own skills and connect with others in class.
