My students are from a high school located in Lake County California. I teach Math and Science to special education students working towards a certificate of completion. These students will complete high school but are not able to keep up with the California State Standards. My students' disabilities ranch from specific learning disabilities to bipolar and other mental illness. Many of my students live in poverty and with trauma.
My students have many difficulties they face in their education.
Many of them have reading levels in the 1st through 3rd grade level. Using technology allows them to better access material. They use audio, text-to-speech, and games to practice their skills. These students truly need technology to help them succeed.
My Project
These materials will help my students access Earth Science topics and help them understand the changes our planet goes through. Our classroom does not have materials for science to use. I use materials I find online or I buy stuff out of my own pocket. Having the plate tectonics earth science package will help teach my students more about earthquakes. We live in California and experience earthquakes frequently. I also incorporate life skills into my lessons such as how to be prepared in case an earthquake occurs or what to do when it happens. The science leaning module curriculum will be used to help my students have a consistent curriculum that I am not having to spend hours searching for because our school does not have a set curriculum for special education.
These materials will allow my special education students to access curriculum and give them much needed support to help them succeed.
To give them the best possible chance at excelling I need quality materials to teach them with. These materials and curriculum will make it easier for the students grasp and retain the information being taught to them. It is vital they receive the best education possible.
