Special Education Preschoolers Deserve a Calm and Peaceful Classroom
Help me give my students a classroom that is calm and peaceful classroom with a LOCHAS Ultra Soft Indoor Modern Area Rug, Brightech Medusa LED Floor Lamp and BHG You-Have-Space 2 Pack Hanging Picture Display.
My Early Childhood Special Education students are curious, creative, and energetic four and five-year-olds with significant developmental delays. Our school is located on the east side of St. Paul, MN, where one hundred percent of our students receive free breakfast and lunch. Ninety-five percent of our students are children of color. Most of our students have difficulty getting their basic needs met, much less have money for the extras. There are 8 students in my class and all of them have special needs like developmental delays and autism.
My Project
My four-year-olds with significant special needs are going to be attending school for the first time once the world becomes a safer place. I would like to create a classroom environment that is calm, welcoming, beautiful, hopeful, and overall a wonderful environment for learning. My plan is to place covers over the harsh fluorescent lights, add in lamp and fairy lighting, display their artwork on the walls with beautiful wire displays, a warm fluffy rug and some comfy pillows for resting.
Childhood stress and anxiety are becoming more and more prevalent in educational settings.
Many youth today experience anxiety, stress, depression and other mental health disorders that negatively impact their social, emotional and academic achievements. With youth
mental health issues on the rise, educators must work toward building positive, nurturing learning environments to counter these negative impacts on student development.
