Help me give my students a variety of books for their independent reading projects.

My Students

Most of the students in my special education do not like reading. Some come into high school with a 1st grade reading level, though most are at around a middle school level. It is my job to get them up to speed so college is an option for them.

My Project

Every quarter, students pick a book to read on their own. the power of choice is important in this assignment: students are more motivated if they have choices in their education. With our school library downsizing, limited hours at the local public library and many students who do not have the resources to buy their own books, students end up picking books from the small classroom library available.

This grant will dramatically expand the reading options available to my students.

They will choose from a variety of literature from different cultures and find something that interests them. These books will serve students for years to come.
