Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
As a special education teacher in a low-income/high poverty school district, many students are faced with several challenges both in and out of the classroom. Despite the many challenges they face, I am looking to make sure that my students have access to the resources here at school that they need to be successful.
I work as a special education teacher in Colorado, where we have 55+ students with disabilities in and out of my room every day.
Despite the academic struggle that they face on a daily basis, my students are eager to learn and do their best. They love to be at school, and my goal is to provide them with the best academic experience possible.
My Project
Being able to have access to flexible seating inside of the classroom is a huge resource to students today. Many students, especially with disabilities, need to be able to fidget and move around to focus on what is being presented to them.
My school has a large population of students with ADHD that access the special education classroom, and the option of flexible seating could make a huge difference in their education.
The seating would be used by the 55+ students in special education here at my school, and ultimately benefit the students with ADHD. Being in special education, these students really struggle with their academics, and those with ADHD have another contributing factor that they need to conquer in order to be successful. These stools and flexible seating options will give those students just that!
