Special Education Extra Special Breaks in the Gym!
Help me give my students in Special Education items such as a bulletin board, a sensory mat, and a wobble board to use during their breaks in the gym.

Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Some of our Special Education students have a short break built into their school week, which is a great chance for them to burn off extra energy and regroup emotions. The breaks also allow the students opportunities to work on strength, flexibility, balance, gross and fine motor skills, and creativity in movement outside of the regular PE block.
I would like to make the breaks "Extra Special" by providing equipment that is specifically set aside for the Special Education students to use in the gym.
Items such as a wobble balance board, stability stepping stones, sensory mini mats, foam roller, and foam pogo jumper would create an fun, active atmosphere for those students to look forward to and enjoy.
I would like to also add to the gym a defined "self calming" area with some anxiety sensory stickers, and some posters that help promote emotion regulation and calming techniques. This area would help all of our students to be more mindful of their emotions, how to self regulate big feelings, and how to be calm in the gym's large dynamic setting. All of our elementary students would benefit from this during our PE time.
It is my goal to make the Special Educations students' breaks in the Gym "EXTRA SPECIAL." I want those students to have something to look forward to that is challenging, fun, and promoting aspects of movement. I also want all of my PE students to have access to an area that can help them manage emotions. These materials will greatly benefit our students, and I am excited to put my plan into action!
