My Students

I am a high-school special education teacher in a small farming community in the Central Valley of California. My students vary widely in their abilities. I have several autistic students, students with tramatic brain injuries, students with emotional and attention disorders, students her were born addicted to drugs. You name it, I have it.

Our school has a very low income population and many come from migrant and field working families.

They live in labor camps and have very little money. I try to incorporate things into my classroom that they would normally never see or be exposed too in their lives.

It is my dream that even though these students struggle tremendously they will still get an opportunity to experience things that their peers do in a general education setting.

My Project

This project will help my students be able to get a visual representation of what a biosphere is. My students are all special ed and their abilities vary greatly.

This biosphere will be beneficial to not only my higher functioning students but also my lower students as well.

I will be using this biosphere while we are learning about the different ecosystems throughout the world. I can use this specific example to show how life is fully self sufficient inside this glass ball. The students will see the tiny shrimp have their life cycles as well as the plant life encapsulated as well.
