My students need food! They are always hungry, and never have enough to eat. They are growing high school students from low socioeconomic backgrounds who are in need!
I teach Special Education Life Skills at a high poverty school. Students are Autistic-Learning Disabilities-Behavior Problems. I have students from the time I walk in to the time I leave. We have all become a family, because they have found a safe comfortable spot for them to come in and be.
My students are very caring individuals who sometimes get lost in the shuffle.
We are in the Special Education Department in a Life Skills Program. We have become a family here and they come to me for anything they need. They are individuals who need to feel cared for, and that someone is reaching out to them. These are growing high school students and sometimes their lunch is not enough. We need extra food such as snacks for them.
My Project
The students are very hungry some days, because they are in need of extra food. We do have free and Due to my students have special needs, and being growing high school students, they need a supplement to their food. This highly impacts their education, their ability to concentrate and focus on assignments. I am often sharing or giving away my lunch to them. I try and bring in what I can, and cook for them, but they need more food. The knowledge and experiences they will retain from being able to not go hungry is very valuable.
Donations for class snacks/food will change my students' lives for the better because some days they are just so hungry.
On the days they have no money, or did not bring anything I will have something to provide for them. I notice a difference when I feed them when they ask, versus when they do not ask. They are very grateful for anything that is given to them. These donations will also help foster positive discussions about donations and helping those more in need.
