I am teaching English language Arts to Special Ed Students. The school is Bed-Stuy Brooklyn and serves a largely poor population. The kids run the gamut of disabilities and all are at 3rd grade or less reading levels in the 7th grade. I am currently teaching approximately 25 students. They need intensive work but I do not have the materials necessary to teach them. I am in an art room which only has one teeny-tiny chalk board. I can only write 4 or 5 things on the board at a time. I can't write detailed lessons on the board or assign impromptu class work. I need a dry-erase board that I can work with them on. I also need an easel to hang chart paper on to create graphic organizers, do grammatical work etc. These are underprivileged kids in an official high needs school, who have managed to get this far with extremely limited reading and writing skills. They need intensive work but I don't have the materials necessary to accomplish this task. Please help me help these kids. Thank you for your consideration.
