My Pre-K students are around 3-4 years old and face various physical, psychological, and developmental challenges that typically-developing children do not. Each one of my students has an IEP, or an Individualized Education Plan, that was written specifically for them to help meet their needs within the school building. Some of my students also receive additional support such as occupational therapy, physical therapy, speech therapy, etc. within the school building to meet additional needs they may have.
Although my students may take longer meeting typical developmental milestones or need additional support within the classroom, they are still children who enjoy laughing, talking, playing and learning within their classroom, and I intend to give them the best classroom experience I possibly can!
One of my favorite things about working with children at this age is watching them learn through play. From building things to playing pretend/dress up and everything in between, preschool students learn through their experiences, and it is a joy to be able to teach them during such a fun time in their lives!
My Project
If this project is funded, I will be able to provide each student with a set of materials to use during remote learning. As the majority of my students are low-income, I have several who do not have the most basic supplies such as crayons in their home to use during remote learning.
The materials from this project would be used to create remote learning packets for my students to use at home while we are required to learn virtually, using them for both learning opportunities and entertainment opportunities by having something new to play with.
The crayons and playdoh will provide students with materials to complete arts & crafts, while also reinforcing their knowledge of their colors. The letter tubs will allow me to show my students examples of words that start with the letter of the week we are learning, and will also allow us to practice identifying objects!
