This is a special education classroom and students in the program come from all different schools and from all different backgrounds. Students in the classroom may have Autism, emotional or behavioral disorders, and developmental delays. This classroom provides students with the ability to stay in public school with their peers in general education classes for lunch, specials, and other classes depending on the student. The classroom is for students in grades K-2. My classroom is designed for students who perform better in a small structured setting with positive behavioral support embedded into the instruction. Students have increased access to therapeutic intervention with daily social skill instruction, social groups, and individual processing in the moment. Students are learning how to cope with their emotions and keep their bodies safe. The focus for the students in this classroom is on changing behavior while simultaneously addressing academics.
My Project
My students come to me with specific needs and they need a very structured, organized, and happy classroom! The Cricut will help to create many different types of visual supports for my students. The machine will help to easily create visual schedules, behavior supports, labels, creative bulletin boards, intensive visual supports/cues, learning tools, etc. My students require many different types of activities and materials to help keep them engaged! These tools will promote student learning by providing a reliable and easy method to create whole group, small group, and individualized visual tools for the students to utilize. The students will also be able to use their creativity to create things as a special reward for showing expected behaviors. I would love to see how this machine can be a huge benefit to me as a teacher in creating the best learning environment for my students.
