Celebrate Black Teachers and Students

This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.

My Students

My students are mostly African American, with some blends and other ethnicities, too. Though most of my students come from the lower rungs of the socioeconomic ladder, they are working hard to get the education needed to be successful in our world.

If I had to choose one word to describe my students, it would be resilient.

They work hard daily, are ready to learn, and don't let setbacks hold them back. They are amazingly clever and always interesting. I am grateful every single day to be able to work with some of the finest minds in the city.

My Project

My students have been given access to READ 180, a program that has been proven to work well for both struggling and intermediate readers alike. In order to use the program's many great resources, we need a class set of headphones with built in microphones. Since this program differentiates activities as a result of fluency and comprehension, the microphones are an integral part of improving literacy.

Kids who can listen and speak well have an easier time decoding and comprehending the written word, so we are incorporating Speaking and Listening Goals into our reading programs.

We are excited to begin, and we can't wait to see our improvement.
