Help me give my students a book with puppet, simple sentence and sequencing materials to retell their stories and write about them on dry erase clipboards.
As a teacher in a low-income, high poverty school district, my students are faced with several challenges both in and out of the classroom. Despite the many challenges they face, I am looking to provide a sparkling, engaging classroom with all the bells and whistles. I want my students to love their school and take pride in their classroom and have the tools they need to succeed.
My students are eager, energetic, and spontaneous.
They like to move, they love to read, and they crave positive attention. Many of them are being raised in single parent households and receive free lunch based on their socioeconomic status. These things may prevent them from getting ahead early in life and may not provide them with the life experiences many of us see as "typical." I may not be able to control their home lives, but I can certainly control their experience during the school day. By doing this in a creative and positive way, I am hopeful to inspire even our earliest learners to continue on a path of academic success. They are learning English as a second language.
My Project
My students speak another language at home. English is their second language. I teach these children to speak, read and write in English. Often times, they don't know certain words or are self conscious about their English accents.
My goal is to get my second language learners talking.
These bright and interactive materials will do just that! Students will be able to sequence the bright and colorful pictures. They will be able to identify facial body parts through the puppet and story, Go Away Big Green Monster. Then they can talk about them and finally write about them on the dry erase clipboards.
