My Students
My students are amazing and always come to school eager to learn. They come from diverse backgrounds, and many on my caseload are being exposed to and learning English for the first time. They attend a large inner city school with 100% of them receiving free breakfast, lunch and snacks, as well as additional support from a volunteer food pantry.
The students I serve have a wide variety of disabilities, which impact their ability to communicate.
Some of these students are non-verbal or have a limited vocabulary, others have diagnoses such as autism or down syndrome. Many others exhibit speech sound and/or language disorders. All of these children respond most effectively to a multi-sensory instruction style.
My Project
The Kaufman Speech Praxis Kits provide visual and verbal cues to help children learn to produce consonant and vowel shapes. Within these kits, children are able to work at various levels by naming pictures and breaking down the words to more simple syllable shapes. As progress is made, the program gradually adds more complex sounds and vowel/consonant patterns.
The Kaufman Praxis cards and workout book will help to build vocabulary as well as improve speech clarity.
The ultimate goal is to increase their functional language skills in order to be lifelong effective communicators. Please help my students to improve their ability communication.
