My students are all English Language Learners. Their families come from very diverse backgrounds. My students speak Chinese, Arabic, or Spanish (with different dialects).
I work with the EL students for thirty minutes everyday on strengthening their speaking and writing skills.
Even at such a young age, the ability to speak two languages will greatly benefit them, not only in their educations, but in their lives. My goal is to assist them in learning English fluently, while respecting and preserving their native language.
These activities I requested will allow my students to work on parts of speech in English, implementing them into their writing. We are also working on descriptive writing in English. These activities provide a great visual reference and support for my students while supporting the learning of content.
Having an ideal that is visual in front of us helps support our thought processes while speaking.
The speaking activities give us a starting point to base our conversations off of. English Language Learners learn best when the information they are learning is presented in more than one way. Most students are visual learners. These activities provide a visual reference for both speaking and writing activities.
