My Students

My classroom is full of lively 9th grade English students ready to take on their first year of high school. Freshman year is often full of difficulties, and these students need the support of their friends, teachers, and families to get them through.

These students are motivated, caring, and willing to learn about what's important to them.

That's why it is so important to show them that their teachers care, and what they are learning is important to their lives.

My Project

High School English book rooms are often full of well-regarded classics written by men who died a long time ago. Even though they teach important lessons, school curriculum is over-saturated with these books. But sometimes students need to read something more modern, more relatable, and more relevant to their daily lives.

Speak by Laurie Halse Anderson is just the book to teach students valuable life lessons and help them through their transition from Middle to High School.

Help me get a class set of this novel so students for years to come can learn to speak their truth during their first months of high school.
