Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Kailua Intermediate students are an eclectic mix of low income, middle class, old money, and military families. Despite the high number of students who qualify for free or reduced lunch, the student have a strong sense of what it means to share and willingness to support each other.
We have a strong sense of community and family.
What makes them special is their willingness to work together across all perceived group boundaries - socioeconomic, cultural, or whatever. As far as they are concerned, they are all just teenagers trying to survive middle school.
My Project
Students in our school have multiple academic and extra curricular activities which happen on our school cafeteria stage. These activities include TEDTalk style presentations, Drama performances, assemblies, and talent shows. They all need a reliable sound system.
Our current sound system was so old that it could have registered to vote.
It died on the 25th of February and we are now relying on karaoke machines and "good projection" for our stage needs. I am requesting a Behringer Sound Mixer and VocoPro Floor Speakers. A reliable in-place system would reduce the teacher stress of trying to find a system to borrow and improve the sound of every staged performance and event.
