Speak up! We can't hear you!!! My students (like many students and adults alike) suffer from glossophobia; the fear of public speaking. Providing a professional forum for our students to deliver their speeches builds confidence; socially and academically!
I currently teach in an urban public school that services children from multiple communities.
We are lucky to have students from a wide variety of cultures, races, religions, and socioeconomic means. The diversity in our school and classrooms enhances our learning environment. Due to budget cuts, our school isn't always able to provide our students with all of the extras (above our current curriculum) that could benefit our students. I would love the opportunity to provide my students with additional resources, some of which they would not be able to acquire on their own.
My Project
Public speaking is a big part of our every day lives; both for students in the classrooms and as active members of a community. The opportunity to stand behind a podium and deliver a speech to a classroom of attentive listeners builds confidence, enhances leadership and communication skills, and provides students an outlet for expressing their judgments and opinions. Microphones and a speaker system will allow even the most timid and shy speaker the chance to be heard by their peers; it also assists in projecting the voices of speakers in our large classrooms. Recording our speeches will allow students to reflect on their own practice, and provide opportunities for growth and development.
Having professional style equipment to present their speeches, my students will be gaining the confidence that they need to not only be successful in the 8th grade, but to take that confidence with them throughout their academic careers, and even into their future as active members of our society.
