My Students
I teach in a diverse setting, encouraging high school students to utilize critical thinking to learn about health and wellness, business, finance, government, and the arts. About the school: Our senior high school is located in South Dade (Florida). Students attending this school must apply to one of the three academies: Marine Biology, Career and Technology, or The Humanities. Students in ninth through twelfth grades take rigorous courses such as Advanced Placement, Cambridge and Dual Enrollment (College Courses at Miami-Dade College). Our student population includes various learners such as English for Speakers of Other Languages (ESOL), the Gifted, and Special Needs.
"It is the supreme art of the teacher to awaken joy in creative expression and knowledge." - Albert Einstein
My Project
Using technology such as a projector for multimedia presentations, a microphone for enhancing speaking abilities and printing ink for handouts and other presentation supportive documents offer students the opportunity to build their business skills. April is local government engagement month. Using "My City I am Part of It, I'm Proud of It!" curriculum, students will learn the history of their municipal government, discuss ways to be engaged and create a project-based-learning or community-awareness project to present to school stakeholders.
Empowering students to be 21st century learners while being civically involved, affords them a chance to be college and life ready.
Students are members of the local community. Having an opportunity to research, contact the local government and deliver a presentation give them a sense of pride and ownership of being members of the polis.
