Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Our students are 9th graders who come from very diverse backgrounds and we have a high percentage on free/reduced lunch. They have amazing potential, but need a little extra support to help them reach it. Our 9th grade students historically have been at risk to repeat the grade if the proper support is not in place. This year the focus is on making sure our 9th graders are successful academically and are not retained. Our goal is to have these students thrive!
My Project
Our students need a quiet space, with individualized attention to do their homework after school. Our school is an urban district where a majority of our students are eligible for free and reduced lunch. The focus of this homework club is to provide a space for the students that is safe, supported and where they can get extra teacher attention after school hours. The donation of these food and drink items allow our students to remain focused and not hungry when tackling their homework. Since it is a voluntary group, we hope that the food and drink like pringles and apple juice will provide students with the incentive to attend regularly.
