This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
It's back to school time and time to find the perfect book and genre for each student. This group of students do not have access to quality rich picture and chapter books. Reading is an important subject for third grade and I want to do whatever it takes to spark the excitement of reading with this new group of students. I have some chapter books that will catch the students attention to my high readers but my goal is to create a book section that captures different types of genres and styles of books that will engage all students.
You see in Ohio, we have the reading guarantee rule where kids must pass the third grade reading test to be promoted to fourth grade.
This is a lot of pressure and students must be reading on grade level and be able to reading for 1.5 to 2 hours at a time. In order to build their stamina and prepare them for this important test, I want to take the pressure off and provide my students with independent reading practice and building their stamina of reading with awesome, brand new, but most importantly updated quality books.
My Project
My class needs chapter books that are current to help make reading books more fun. I want my students to be engaged and be able to learn the different genres and authors who write the chapter books. I will also be able to recommend books to students to find the perfect book.
These books will allow my students to be more excited about reading and help them find their favorite book to read.
By having so many books to choose from, students will have time to build up their reading stamina and their book log lists. Having books to read is important because my students have to take an important reading test to pass in order to be granted to fourth grade. Reading is such an important part of our learning and these books will help that process along.
