Help me give my students the books they have selected to read! Giving students a choice in what they read will help them enjoy reading and encourage them to take ownership of their own learning
If you step foot into my classroom, you would see a class of student-sponges eager to learn. They are curious, fun-loving, quick to laugh, with just a little dose of sass. They enjoy a good debate and thrive on a good challenge. They attack difficult material with a vigor I haven't seen in many of the buildings in which I have taught. They constantly make me laugh and inspire me every day with their grit and ability to overcome the odds.
My Project
By placing books high-interest novels into the hands of our students, we will be able to perpetuate a love for reading and strengthen their reading strategies. I watch my students grapple with challenging texts on a daily basis. They have found the power of literature during the school year. Some have fought me tooth and nail, but I can confidently say that all of my students have discovered the power of reading. I want to perpetuate these skills and a desire for more by keeping them reading interesting books in a multitude of genres.
This program will be successful because the books we will give these students are high-interest and will appeal to their desire to be a part of the conversation.
They will get insight into multiple perspectives and points of view that many of them will only see if they are given the opportunity to walk around in another character's skin. If they are given the opportunity to read between the lines, we can expect these students to have an educated voice in our communities and on the issues we each face every day.
