My students come from a wide variety of backgrounds and socioeconomic levels. While this does call for a large amount of differentiation, it enables them to bring a variety of experiences to the table while learning. They are eager to learn new things through engaging activities. Because of this, they are very interested in science. They seek out scientific knowledge through videos. In fact, my students often ask to watch videos of science experiments during indoor recess. They are ready to expand their love of science to books.
My Project
Students often don't value the importance of science throughout their educational career for a variety of reasons. One of those reasons is that they often aren't able to see how science is relevant TO THEM in the real world. Another reason is that students often don't find the material interest.
We need a classroom set of scientific literature to help meet their growing curiosity of scientific material.
This classroom set of literature will not only spark students' interest in science, but also create relevance to their own lives. Through literature and visual graphics in these two specifically aligned classroom sets of science books, students can expand their learning. I plan to use these books to supplement the NGSS curriculum in my classroom. I also plan to have these available to students. So they can explore whatever topics are most important or interesting to them.
