Ms. Hanke from Rock Hill SC is requesting Books through DonorsChoose, the #1 classroom funding site for teachers.

Sparking a Revolution

My students need Revolutionary War texts to further inquiry, research, and study in reading, writing, and social studies.

My Students

Classrooms that are student-centered are successful. I teach in a Title I school in Rock Hill, South Carolina where over 90% of my students receive free or reduced lunch. Much of our funding goes to providing our school's students with snacks for the weekend, wearable tennis shoes, or book bag and supplies needed to be successful. This leaves little room for individual classroom funding. Despite these hardships, my students come to school and work hard! I want to provide them with safe, positive ways to interact and take charge of their own learning.

My Project

Being a Title I school, my students don't have access to texts as much as other classrooms may. Having these materials will not only help with our learning this year, but for Revolutionary War studies for years to come. My students will use these text to conduct research, to have meaningful conversations about what they are reading and writing, and to spark their attention about the Revolutionary War. My students will complete various research and writing projects that exemplify all that they can learn from this multitude of resources you will be providing, resources that my students otherwise would not have access to.
