This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
The amount of knowledge my students have for technology is immense, but it dwindles as soon as we turn on the three 9 year-old computers in the classroom. There are so many awesome projects I'd love for my students to be able to do with computers, but we are stuck!
I teach 4th and 5th grade Literacy in an inner city Arts and Sciences elementary school.
My students are eager to learn, and at an age where they can take on projects that could change the world! Our school's STEM focus (Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics) helps prepare my students for future careers in this field. My fourth grade class is crazy for Science (in a good way, of course), and expanding our Literacy program to include technology would just allow them to shine! My fifth grade students are one year away from middle school, where the work load increases dramatically. They deserve this opportunity to become proficient with technologies that will help them in the future.
My Project
Computers in the classroom can be used for remediation and enrichment. The possibilities are truly endless for my students if they have proper Internet access. In 4th and 5th grade, students start learning how to complete proper research projects, can create videos as presentations, and they can also publish books! Our current computers are 9 years old and work 50% of the time.
Your donation to help us buy 12 Chrome books will help my tiny (and awesome) school in so many ways.
My district is currently faced with a $120 million budget deficit, so upgrading technology is just not on the list of things that can be done. My students would love to be able to use newer technology...they've just got used to the idea that our school district doesn't have the money for these things.
