My students are creators, makers, and little explorers in all that they do. I love working with them because they are like sponges that soak up everything they see, here, and interact with. Even when I think they aren't listening or watching, they can still tell me almost everything we just said or did!
As their teacher, I am able to provide them with real life learning experiences that help them grow from little learners into 21st Century thinkers, problem solvers, and engineers.
Fifty percent of the students in my class come from disadvantaged homes, where English is a second language. They receive free and reduced lunch on a daily basis and their families are unable to provide them with support and educational experiences. My students have a thirst to acquire knowledge on a daily basis and I am so fortunate that I can provide learning experiences for them to gain self confidence and 21st century skills!
My Project
Our school has an exciting opportunity to teach basic engineering and coding skills to students who would otherwise never have the chance to be exposed to designing challenges at such a young age. We are hosting an after school Coding Program and Coding/Design Camp this summer. All our learning experiences are aligned with the NGSS with a focus on the engineering component.
These Snap Circuit Jr kits are just one way to introduce our students to an exciting world of building, coding and programming.
Every 21st century student should have a chance to learn algorithms, how to make an app, or how the Internet works.
