Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
I have an amazing group of Second Language Learners, 2nd and 3rd graders, that are very excited about learning and developing their language skills in English.
Since the beginning of the school year, we are working together on building a community of caring citizens.
Through Character Education and strategies from Responsive Classroom, we are creating a nurturing environment, where all members of our classroom feel safe to take risks and comfortable to learn from their mistakes. We are ready to continue our journey.
My Project
Every child needs something awesome to work toward. I would like to have my students write stories in English by using Google Suite as they continue to transition their skills from their native language to their second language. The students all have Google Suite accounts and I would like to get them started with digitally writing their ideas down to create a portfolio that they may revisit over the years.
When my students are in high school they will be able to look back at their grammar and writing from elementary school, since they are doing it digitally.
Once the students write in Google Docs they will be able to either record themselves reading it or create a digital movie based on their story. The chrome books will facilitate this experience. It doesn't matter how they want to express their story as long as they express it and start to feel comfortable with the English Language.
Digital story telling provides students to write with out judgement and create a way for people to see their stories.
