My Students

I love my job! I sincerely enjoy coming to work (most days). So many of our students are sincerely interested in making the world a better place and that is visible in the way that they treat people from outside the confines of our campus.

When substitute teachers visit MHS, they often share positive stories of their experience in our classrooms.

We have good kids here, but not every student's life experience is the same. Some of our students have traveled many miles to be with us and it is fun to watch the student body welcome them with open arms.

My Project

We have amazing students at MHS, but not all of our students have the same life experiences. Some members of our student body have traveled thousands of miles to be with us. Some of our students come from families in which their native language is Spanish and, unfortunately, we do not have all of the resources needed to help these children grow academically.

Please, help us provide Spanish speaking students with the same tools our English speaking students need... library books.

We currently have a library consisting of 2000 books. However, we have only identified about 1% of these books as Spanish titles. As these students learn English, they need books they can feel comfortable reading and talking about with their English-speaking peers.

The English teachers in our building have made literacy a central component to their courses. In fact, they bring their classes into the library at least a couple of times a month in an effort to foster positive reading skills in an exceedingly paperless world. If funded, this project would provide more literature options for Spanish speaking students to choose from. As it stands, the English teachers do not have what they need to keep our Spanish speaking population engaged in class.
