My students need readers to help them develop second language proficiency and literacy.

My students, or as I like to call them, my kids, hold a special place in my heart. Despite the challenges they face outside the classroom, they come to school with smiles and ready to take on the world.
They are resilient in the face of adversity.
I want my kids to know that despite what setbacks they may have, they have a safe place to grow and learn in our school. I want them to know that taking that first step of believing in themselves, that they hold so much potential within them. I know many of them will go on to be successful and they hold the keys to their future.
I strive to build that confidence in my students. I strive to make them outstanding global citizens who could literally change the world. I strive to close the achievement gaps, despite not always having all the resources at hand. I strive to make my kids be the exception, not the statistic. With more resources, you and I will be able to give my kids the chance they deserve to not only succeed, but also to excel.
These novels will allow students to develop proficiency in Spanish through reading. Students will be able to see the language in context and therefore, will be able to read, write, speak, and understand more in Spanish.
Using novels in the classroom make language come alive.
Students will love getting caught up in the plot of the story while building their confidence that they can read in another language. We will have classroom discussions and make personal connections to the text. Students always comment how much more they learn through reading and discussing texts. They love rising up to the challenge.
