Our students are from a large, rural area that travel some distance to school and need more language learning opportunities to make them competitive students after high school either for scholarships, college entrance, and/or the workforce. The students at our school are finding themselves at a disadvantage more and more compared to other schools in urban areas that start their language learning at earlier ages and that have more opportunities to practice their acquired skills.
My students need to grow more confident in their world language abilities and need to improve fluency in the target language in order to compete in the real world of our global society.
Many of students will not have the opportunity to travel or study abroad, so what they are learning in the classroom helps them with a broader and better understanding of our ever growing world.
My Project
My level 2 students will start their semester with this book, La Isla Más Peligrosa, to remember the level 1 materials, and level 1 students will use this book later in the semester to see how and what they are learning comes together in language. Both levels will be building confidence in their abilities, will complete personal vocabulary lists for words that they do not know, and storyboards in their reading journals for the book.
My students will be more confident as they move to the next level of their Spanish language education.
They will become more fluent readers, writers, and speakers. They will also be able to relate more and be more connected in their learning as they are putting to use and are being more vested in what they are learning.
